The wedding ceremony is a symbol and celebration of commitment. The reception is a big party to celebrate the marriage. However, what sets the tone for the big wedding celebration is all the parties that take place before the wedding. So what kind of tone are you looking to set?

Though planning a fun Bridal Shower with just a few people may seem like a small event, it is a more intimate atmosphere which means more one on one fun. It includes getting other people involved in the planning.  If you know your maid of honor, you will know whether or not she can handle the task to plan it. Although she may be the best person to be your maid of honor, this does not by default mean she is a great party planner. If she is not, to avoid hurting her feelings simply ask her if she can help you plan the party as opposed to planning the entire thing. Then, be sure to give her some important tasks to oversee.

People often forget to search for a location for pre-wedding events like a Bachelorette Party or rehearsal Dinner Location. With so much planning to do who has time to look for a party and events location in CT?  Well I think the place I accidentally found fits most everything you need for a pre-wedding event. Let me give you the details and you can decide for yourself.

I wasn’t in search for a party and events location in CT on this particular day. I just wanted to stop by the  Bridal Show and get to know some great vendors. When going to a Bridal Show, after about the 7th table, you start to notice the process of going from table to table can get overwhelming and tedious , specially when you know you have another 50 tables to go. Well, that was me, on my way out the door, exhausted from having stopped by so many tables. On my way out the door, I met Kate from Dakota’s Restaurant in Rocky Hill, CT. It was her smile and genuine charm that caught my attention, so I took her contact info and planned a visit.

If the food sucks, it’s a done deal no matter how great the place may be. Part of having a good time includes eating good. I discovered that this location has an Award Winning Brunch. The second thing I look for is fun and friendly people. Is the staff really nice, you know? No, not to the kind of nice you get paid to be, the kind where it shows you truly care. Hanging out with the crew at Dakota’s left me with the feeling that they were like a real family. They actually enjoyed working with one another. That’s not the kind of thing you can fake for the camera. True comradeship shows right away.

The silverware, table settings, fire-place and over all look of the room did not make me  feel like I was  at a weekend steakhouse. Given that the room is private and away from the general public, separated by doors, it creates its own ambience. The highlight for me was the room for a dance floor and A DJ. You can’ t beat that for a great party.

First, let your fiancé now what your expectations are. Maybe you are a bride that is anticipating on doing the entire planning and he’ll just meet you at the altar. Or maybe you are the complete opposite and you are the bride who will be co-planning with your groom. Letting him know which type you are in the beginning will make the planning go smoother. If he’s like any other guy I know, he’ll welcome the guidance from you.

Bounce ideas off of him. Ask him for input on even the simplest decisions. Don’t do black! As a Photographer I can tell you it makes for horrible photos. Unless you are going to put the groomsmen in turquoise, this will not complement any wedding party. Don’t match the dress colors with the flowers. Think contrast and color pop. When choosing the best colors for your bridesmaid dresses, be sure either the dress color pops or the flowers colors pop.

Don’t match the background. If you are having a fall wedding and taking your photos in the beautiful fall colors in nature’s scenic backdrop, the best colors for your bridesmaid dresses are not the browns or burgundy’s. If you choose a darker mint, then you are definitely having a St. Patick’s Day Wedding. The way I see it, this is your wedding, so you get to decide what the color of the year is. If its mint green for you, then do what you love, but certainly not because someone somewhere decided this is the color.

Finally, let’s look at the best ones. I have done so many wedding where a color I thought I would hate then looked fabulous at the wedding party. Take pink for instance, though I am not a fan, when used in the hot pink variation looks great for a modern wedding. Same goes for peach. While a pastel version of pink or peach may be simply nauseating,  when you add a rich, depth, maybe a little darker tone too it, it can add that wow effect to your wedding theme look.  When choosing the best colors for your bridesmaid dresses consider also the bridesmaids skin tones.  If you have a variation of skin tones, then a color like blue works great for most tones. Finally, consider the season and how darker colors bring a touch of warmth to a winter wedding while lighter colors during spring lighten the mood.
